What You Need to Know to Make Your Dream Into a Business

It’s true: we all want to be entrepreneurs and create the next great thing that changes the world for the better. Many people believe that finding that one great idea is the hardest part of this journey. It isn’t. The hardest part about taking your great idea and changing the world is turning your passion project into an actual, viable, and profitable business. Everybody thinks they know how to do this, but very few manage to do it successfully. Here are a few tips that will help you become one of the lucky few:

  1. Get Out of the Garage

Or your dining room or your basement or wherever. Yes, it is possible to run a viable business from home, but if you want to ever be able to grow that business past your own solo-preneur and independent capabilities, you need real business space. Whether this is retail space, office space, warehouse space, or something else will depend on your product or idea. But one thing is for sure: nobody is ever going to take you seriously if you run your business entirely out of your own home.

  1. Stop Making Do

One of the classic mistakes that many new entrepreneurs make is trying to make do with as little as possible. Bootstrapping feels romantic and creative and vaguely bohemian and cool. To your clients, it looks like you are having a difficult time getting your company off the ground. So stop running your calls through that free number that you’ve forwarded to your personal cell phone. Set up your business space with real phones, actual Internet, real cloud tech, etc. This sounds expensive but it doesn’t have to be. One of the benefits of VOIP phone systems, for example, is that they are much budget-friendlier than their traditional landline counterparts (and easier to set up). Take some time to find providers and solutions that you can afford. They are out there.

  1. Hire Help

If you want to grow your business, you’re going to have to realize that you can’t always do everything yourself. In fact, trying to do everything yourself is likely what’s holding you back. This is going to be difficult for the Type As among you, but trust us: you need to hire a team if you want your idea to grow beyond being just a hobby. At the very least, you will need to hire an assistant who can help you manage your calendar, errands, etc; an accountant to help you manage your books, taxes, and payroll; a marketing expert to help you build buzz and representation in the market, and a webmaster who can build your company’s site, manage its structure and functions and keep it as safe as possible.

  1. Network

Ugh. Networking. We all hate it when it isn’t just posting cat pictures on Twitter, right? Still, it is a necessary part of building your business. You need to attend networking events large and small. You need to attend events that are focused on your own niche as well as those niches that are complimentary. Get involved with your chamber of commerce. Go to a conference or two every year. Basically, go outside and talk to people. Will each person you meet be a fast friend and a trusted business partner? No. But you increase your chances of that happening when you leave the relative safety of home and Facebook.

  1. Set a Schedule

If you’re like most idealistic entrepreneurs, you’re probably spending all of your waking hours working on building your business. Stop it. There is such a thing as the work-life balance and you need to achieve a good one if you want to succeed. Remember, sometimes taking a break is what helps you see a problem or situation more clearly. It’s also true that you need to have a set time in which you are definitely working and a set time in which you are definitely not going to be working can help your focus and productivity. Plus, it helps create and reinforce boundaries with your clients.

Getting out of the garage isn’t easy. It’s hard work, costs money and can be terrifying. We promise, though, that it is the very best thing to do if you really want to build a business that will change the world.

My Dream Business To Change Things Around Us

At some point in the life, every one dreams of being a successful entrepreneur and so do I. Being an entrepreneur is not just about running a business and earning profits, it is about building something that will disrupt and change things around you. It is not just about money, it is about building a better future for your upcoming generation. And this can only be done by understanding the gap between the demands & supply in a society and closing that gap with the right products.

My Dream Business:

Internet is the future of communication. Although it has become a crucial part of many people around the world but still 2/3rd of the world’s population has no access to internet. And out of those who have the access, only 1/5th are using on regular basis. And there lies an opportunity. According to various surveys, by 2025, developing countries around the world will account for more than half of the world wide web economy. So, this is the right time to work on technologies that will shape the internet of tomorrow.
We, three friends, want to start a “Web and Mobile Development Company“. With the diverse background of each of us, it is great combination to fill the different roles in our new company.

Some of the services we would be providing:
– Website Development
– Mobile Applications(Windows, Android, iOS, Blackberry, Nokia, etc.) Development
– Internet Marketing Consultancy(Social Media, SEO, SEM), etc.

Another market that is going to evolve and completely change the dynamics of communication is Mobile space. From social interactions to purchasing products, customers are moving their entire life to mobile space. Even if your main business is on the web, you can’t ignore the mobile strategy. In some countries, android activations are more than the babies born in a day. Even if you compare the time spent on web and mobile, mobile leads the space here also.
So, apart from providing consultancy and development services to others, another aspect of our business would be to build mobile applications to make things better around us. Especially in India, popular mobile applications are only limited to Social networking or messenger apps, so there lies an big opportunity to build apps in the field of Education, Shopping, and business.

How We Will Use Office 365 in our Business:

Office 365 is a subscription-based service by Microsoft which provides access to various services that are built around the MS Office platform. It is a successor to the Microsoft’s Business Online Productivity Suite, and it includes cloud versions of Lync, Exchange, SharePoint, and Office Web Apps, along with the access to the Microsoft Office.

Office 365

By subscribing to the Office 365, we can stay connected to our employees 24*7 no matter where we are.
Check out some of the work that we would be able to do with the help of Office 365 without any hassles:

– Save and Share files in the cloud easily.
– Arrange online meetings and share PowerPoint slides, Word Files, Excel spreadsheets, etc. instantly.
– Use Microsoft Office web application at any place. All we need is Internet.
– With the SharePoint cross devices availability, we can share date with all the employees instantly as all the setup is done virtually.
– With Lync Online, we can get real time information — including statuses, photos, location and improved instant messaging (IM) to connect efficiently & effectively.

Services such as SharePoint or Lync Online are also available as a standalone service from Microsoft Office 365 or can be purchased as part of an Office 365 for enterprises suite that includes SharePoint, Microsoft Office Professional Plus, Lync Online, Microsoft Exchange Online, and Microsoft Office Web Apps.

Overall, Office 365 is a great product from Microsoft to transform the work and make it hassle-free with the help of cloud computing.

WorknHire – Freelance Marketplace Specifically for Indian Freelancers

worknhire

With the rise in Internet penetration in India, the concept of Freelancing is booming these days. There are many people in India who are now working full time in the field of freelancing. Freelancing in simple terms means working for yourself. And the concept is great as you can make money by working with the convenience of your own schedule, and comfort. To cash in on the growing demands of Indian freelancing market, Excellence Technologies’ Team launched Work N Hire to bridge the gap between freelancers and clients in India.

WorknHire.com is a great new freelance marketplace startup to connect freelancers and clients to each other. Though there are already many online freelance marketplace such as www.freelancer.com, oDesk.com or elance.com but the best thing I liked about this startup is that it is fully customized to cater to the Indian freelancing market.

worknhire

Now you can easily post your project requirements as a client and freelancers will apply for these projects. There are many categories in which projects can be posted such as IT & Programming, Graphic Design & Multimedia, Writing, Content & Translation, Data Entry & Admin, Sales & Marketing, Customer Service, Finance & Accounting and others.

Making payments is also very simple on WorknHire. You can either pay directly to the freelancers or when the project is awarded, clients can deposit funds into the escrow, which will make sure that your money is safe till the time project is completed. And as soon as work is completed, you can release the fund to the freelancers.

How WorknHire is different from the Global Market Players:

1) Localized Region based searching for Freelancers: You can easily search freelancers based on their locations.

2) Lower Service Fees: The transaction fees is only 5%

3) Indian Projects and Payments in INR

4) Payment Gateways supporting(for employers) Debit Cards and Internet Banking.

In the future, the team is also planning to add more features such as Cash Collection Service, Profile Verification Service, more  Localized Customization, etc.

Do give it a try and let us know your thoughts in comments. We wish the team all the best. :)

Why You Should Keep Your Goals To Yourself? ( Video )

derek sivers keep your goals to yourself

You must have read in many self-help books that announcing your goals publicly gives you more push and motivation to achieve those goals. But Derek Sivers talks about a different perspective that it’s always better to keep your goals secret.

Various tests done since 1933 show that people who talk about their goals are less likely to make them happen because announcing your goals publicly satisfies your self-identity just enough that you are not much motivated to do the hard work required to achieve those goals.
