How to Install WordPress and Start Blogging – Complete Guide

WordPress is free and open-source blogging software that you can use with your own domain name to run a website or blog.
There is no doubt that WordPress is the best platform for blogging, small businesses and even small eCommerce websites. It is used by more than 60 million blogs all over the world.

But if you don’t have any technical knowledge, it might seem a daunting task for you to set up your own blog or website on self hosted wordpress platform.
But I just have two words to say to you, ” Don’t Worry”. Setting up a wordpress blog is as easy as cutting a piece of cake.

Here is the step-to-step guide on “How To Install Your WordPress Blog”:

Step 1: Buy a Domain Name

The first step in setting up your blog or website is to buy a domain name. It is very easy to buy a domain name but difficult to choose the right domain name.
Always choose a domain name that can be associated with the product or service you are planning to provide. Choosing the right domain name can even improve your SEO(Search Engine Optimization).
You can try sites like domize to help you choose the domain name.
I purchased my domain name from Dynadot.com and will recommend everyone that because of their fast services and easy to use panel.
You can also try from Godaddy.com which is also a huge brand in this field.

Step 2: Get a Hosting Account at Hostgator with cPanel Feature

I have been using Hostgator for my hosting services and have only one thing to say, it is very reliable with all the features.
Some hosting company might not provide you cPanel in their package. So, if you’re are new into blogging and don’t know what to do, I’d recommend you to go with Hostgator.(Affiliate Link)

I’ve purchased the “Baby Plan” for my hosting services as it gives you option of having multiple domains on your server. But if you have limited budget and need server for only single domain with unlimited storage, you can start with the “Hatching Plan”.

Step 3: Login Into Your cPanel

Once you choose your plan on Hostgator and sign up, it will provide you a link to your own cPanel. Login with your username and password and move onto the next step.

Hostgator will provide you with “Name Servers” that you need to fill in the domain name servers on the Dynadot or your domain name registrar.
After setting up your name servers, you can also access cPanel by visiting “www.yourwebsitename.com/cpanel” or “www.yourwebsitename.com:2082”

Step 4: Select Fantastico / Fantastico De Luxe in Your cPanel

The next step is to select Fantastico / Fantastico De Luxe in your cPanel. It appears in the Software/Services Tab in Hostgator cPanel.

Step 5: Install WordPress

Click on the WordPress tab in Fantastico.
Look for the “New Installation” tab under WordPress settings and click on it.

Step 6: Fill In Your Details

Install on Domain – Choose your domain name
Install in Directory– Leave it blank

Administrator-Username: Fill admin username
Password: Fill admin password
[ Admin username and password are used to login into your website admin and these can be changed later]


Then fill the “Base configuration” details which can also be changed later.

Click on “Install WordPress” to finish Installation.

Step 7: Access your Blog or Website Admin Area

After you are done with installing wordpress on your blog, visit www.yoursitename.com/wp-admin/ to access your blog admin.
Use the username and password filled above. And Start Blogging.
The whole process only takes 5-10 minutes.
