How To Predict Future PageRank

PageRank-Prediction

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm used by Search Engine Giant Google, that assigns a numerical weighting to each webpage on the Internet, with the basic purpose of “calculating” its relative importance.
The higher the no. of quality backlinks to a webpage, the higher its PageRank, & the higher its rankings in Google’s search results. So, it is crucial to get higher PageRank for your website.

PageRank-Prediction

Google PageRank(PR) is updated every 2-3 months and the most recent update was on May 3, 2012. But if you want to predict your future PageRank, there is a  great tool available for that.

PageRank Predictor

PageRank Predictor finds out your site’s future PageRank based on the quality & quantity of backlinks. According to the information on the website, this tool predicts the real PageRank, not the Google Pagerank. Google never shows the real PR. It could be because your website is young or may be you are selling or exchanging links. You may also be violating some google rules without knowing about existence of these norms. Thus, generally, Real PageRank is higher than current pagerank on your google toolbar.
This Pagerank prediction tool shows Real PR without any Google’s reducing factors.

Note: This tool will just provide an estimation of the future Google PR & should not be considered exact because Google’s real algorithm to calculate PageRank is way too complex to understand.

20 Tips To Survive Google Panda or Penguin Updates

google penguin

Google recently released a new update to their Webspam algorithm, called Penguin Update which is targeted on the websites that are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines. Google has provided plenty of guidelines and elaboration on the quality guidelines in its help center.

google penguin

Here are Top 20 tips from Google Help Center itself to survive any Google Panda or Penguin Update:

Quality Guidelines – Specific Guidelines

1) Avoid hidden text or hidden links

Hidden links are those links which are unreadable to Humans(readers) but are intended to be crawled by Google bots. Some people make links on their website Hidden by using the same text color and background color or using the link on a hyphen in a paragraph. These practices are deceptive and Google will remove your website from their index.

You Should Avoid Following Practices:

– Using white text on a white background.
– Hiding text behind an image.
– Using CSS to hide text and links.
– Setting the font size on your pages to 0.

2) Don’t use cloaking or Doorway Pages

Cloaking means the practice of showing different content or URLs to users & search engines. For example, Presenting a page of HTML text to search engines, while presenting a page of images or Flash to users.

Doorway pages are those web pages that are created for spamming the index of a search engine by including results for particular keywords with the purpose of sending visitors to a different page. They are also known as bridge pages, jump Pages, entry pages, portal pages, and gateway pages. These pages are created with the intent of sending traffic to affiliate pages.

Avoid these practices of manipulating search engines and deceiving users to avoid any kind of ban from Google.

3) Avoid Sending Automated Queries to Google

Avoid sending any kind of automated queries to Google. There are many software available these days to check how a website or webpage ranks in Google search results for various queries. These software send automated queries to Google and absorbs their resources which may result in banning your site from Google index.

4) Don’t load pages with irrelevant keywords(Keyword Stuffing)

Keyword stuffing” is the practice of loading a webpage with too many keywords in an attempt to manipulate a website’s ranking in Google’s search results. This type of practice may result in negative user experience and also can harm your website ranking. Avoid any type of Over Optimization techniques on your web pages.

5) Avoid creating multiple pages, domains, or subdomains with duplicate content

Examples of Duplicate content could include:

Discussion forums that can generate both regular & stripped-down pages targeted at mobile devices
Store items shown or linked via multiple distinct URLs
Printer-only versions of web pages.

If your site contains multiple pages with almost identical content, then you can use a technique called “Canonicalization” to indicate your preferred URL to Google.
You can use “301 redirects’ and Webmaster Tools to handle identical content. Or just try to minimize similar content.

6) Avoid creating pages with malicious behavior

Malicious Behavior covers all sorts of malicious software designed to harm a computer or network such as Viruses, Trojans and badware. Google immediately inform webmasters about their site being flagged as malicious and banned from Google Index. So, do check Webmasters Tools daily.

7) Use Affiliate Marketing but only if you provide unique and relevant content

Do not attempt to improve your page’s ranking & attract visitors by creating pages with many words but little or no authentic content and linking all those pages to affiliate marketing programs.

Quality Guidelines – Basic Principles

1) Make your site pages primarily for readers, and not for search engines.

2) Avoid using Black Hat SEO techniques, some of which are explained above. Black Hat SEO refers to the techniques that are used to get higher search rankings in an unethical manner.

3) Don’t participate in Link Building Exchange Schemes or Paid Link Building to increase your site’s ranking or PageRank.

See Also: 3 Tips For Off Page Optimization Techniques For SEO Success

4) Do not use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such kind of programs consume lot of computing resources & violate Google’s TOS. Google doesn’t recommend the use of programs such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic/programmatic queries to Google.

Technical Guidelines

1) Monitor your site’s performance & optimize load times. If your website is taking too much time to load, Google may push your rankings. The main goal of Google is to provide users with the most relevant results & a great user experience. Fast sites increase user satisfaction & improve the overall quality of the web.

2) Use robots.txt on your site to prevent crawling of search results pages or other auto-generated pages that don’t add much value for users coming from search engines.

3) Make reasonable efforts to ensure that ads don’t affect search engine rankings. For example, Google’s AdSense advertisements & DoubleClick links are blocked from being crawled by a robots.txt file.

4) Test your website to make sure that it appears correctly in different browsers.

Design and Content Guidelines

1) Make your website with a clear hierarchy & text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.

2) Keep the outbound links on your webpage to a reasonable number.

3) If your website contains lot of images. Then use relevant keywords in the ALT Attribute on the images.

4) Regularly check for broken links on your website and fix them.

5) Write original and high quality content.

3 Tips For Off Page Optimization Techniques For SEO Success

off page optimization

Getting the optimization of your website’s content (On Page Optimization) is only half the battle. Off Page Optimization is also equally important for your website to rank higher in search results.

off page optimization

So today, I’ll discuss 3 tips for Off Page Optimization Techniques For SEO Success:

1) Link Building:  The most important part of Off Page Optimization is Link Building. You should try to get as many backlinks as possible from other websites. The number and quality of backlinks is crucial for your PageRank to increase and ultimately to rank higher in search results. PageRank is directly proportional to the no. of unique pages that are linking to your site. If you have high no. of backlinks from the websites with good PageRank, you will have a high PageRank. So, spend some time in getting those backlinks.

Here are some tips to get backlinks:
– Guest Blogging on sites related to your blog niche.
– Press Releases
– Forum Posting related to your blog niche.
– Article Submission to sites like Ezine, Hubpages, etc.
– Blog Commenting on ‘DoFollow’ Sites
– Image Sharing on sites like photobucket, flickr, etc.
– Video Sharing on sites likes YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
– RSS Feed Creation & Submission
– Directory Submission such as Dmoz.org, Technorati.com, etc.
Use of Social Media: Share and promote your content on all the major social media sites such as Facebook, twitter, Linkedin, Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Tumblr, Google Plus and Pinterest. All these sites can bring a huge amount of traffic to your site and also helps in link building.

2) Anchor Text:  Now another important factor in Off Page Optimization is Anchor Text. Anchor Text is the text to form a Hyperlink. If you are not choosing the right anchor text, then all of your efforts of getting backlinks will not be much useful.
For example, If I want to link to this page – http://www.youngblah.com/what-is-page-rank/ and the main keyword is Pagerank.
I can use “Click Here(Anchor Text) to know more about PageRank.

But ‘Click Here’ doesn’t tell Google Bots what the link is pointing to. So, use the link on the keyword.
Right Method(Example), “Click here to know more about PageRank(Anchor Text)”.
So, you should try to get backlinks from other websites using the right Anchor Text to make your site more relevant in Google search results.

3) Best Practices:
– Quality and Natural Links matters.
– Avoid Paid Backlinks.
– Avoid Link Exchange.
– Try to get Backlinks from High Authority Sites or from sites with at least PR 1 or above.
– Try to get Backlinks from sites that are relevant to your content.
– A link in the footer of a website is weighted less by Google than the link appearing on the top or in the main content of the page.

Importance of Using Proper Permalinks In SEO

wordpress-permalinks-seo

What is a Permalink?

Permalinks are the permanent URLs to your individual blog posts, categories & various other lists of your blog postings. A permalink is used to link to your article or or how you might send a link to your article in an e-mail message. The URL to each post is permanent, & never change — hence permalink. e.g.  “http://yourdomainname.com/category/post-name/”

wordpress-permalinks-seo

Why to Use Proper Permalinks?

Using right structure for Permalinks can help a great deal in Search Engine Optimization(SEO). The proper way to set up Permalinks is to include the keywords in it which could help you in Google rankings and it would also be easier for people to read the Permalinks, thus increases the Click-through rate(CTR).

Types of Permalinks and How To Change Permalink Structure?

1) Ugly permalink – http://yourdomainname.com/?p=123

2) Pretty permalink – http://yourdomainname.com/category/post-name/ or http://yourdomainname.com/year/month/day/post-name or http://yourdomainname.com/post-name/

permalinks wordpress

The default setting for Permalinks in WordPress is “http://yourdomainname.com/?p=ID Number”. But this default URL structure does not benefit the reader & blog owner at all.
To change the pretty permalinks for your WordPress blog, select ‘Permalinks’ from Settings in your WordPress dashboard.
The best SEO permalink structure includes ‘category’ and the ‘post title’ in the URL.
It looks like this: “http://yourdomainname.com/category/post-title”. But avoid using category in the URL structure if your domain name and slug is long as that might lead to a very long URL which is harder to share & will not benefit you much in Google.
Some bloggers including me also use URL structure with just the post name: “http://yourdomainname.com/post-title” which is also great for SEO, so you don’t need to worry if you are using this.
You can change the permalink structure anytime & WordPress will do a 301 redirect from the old URLs to the new ones but be careful as changing Permalinks will push your pages out of Google’s index for some time, thus decreasing your Traffic.

How To Safely Change Your WordPress Permalink Structure

1) Yoast: You can use Yoast’s redirect tool to safely change the WordPress Permalink Structure.

2) Advanced Permalinks: Use this plugin to keep the same URL for all your old posts & then create a new permalink structure for new ones.

Top 11 Things To Consider Before Choosing A Web Hosting Provider

choose best web hosting

Finding the right web hosting provider for your website is very important. There are so many companies these days providing web hosting services with unlimited storage at low prices, that it is very hard to choose the best provider. But don’t fall for these attractive offers without doing actual research about that company.

choose best web hosting

Here are top 11 things to consider before choosing a Web Hosting Provider:

1) Shared or Dedicated Hosting: Shared Hosting is the most common type of web hosting account in which your website is hosted on a server which is shared by many websites. The benefit of shared hosting is that it can be very low cost. So, if you are not expecting heavy traffic on your website, then this is the best solution for you.
Else, choose dedicated hosting in which a full server will be dedicated to your website. This is the best solution for big eCommerce websites that gets thousands of visitors per day.

2) Uptime: Uptime is the amount of time that a server has stayed up & running. It is usually listed as a percentage, like “99.9% uptime.” Uptime is a great measure of how great a Web hosting provider is. Always choose the web hosting provider with the 99.9% uptime. Anything below than that is not good for your website.
Below are some mathematical explanations of Uptime:
98% uptime = 28.8 min./day or 3.4 hrs/week or 14.4 hrs/month or 7.3 days/year
99% uptime = 14.4 min./day or 1.7 hrs/week or 7.2 hrs/month or 3.65 days/year
99.5% uptime = 7.2 min./day or 0.84 hrs/week or 3.6 hrs/month or 1.83 days/year
99.9% uptime = 1.44 min./day or 0.17 hrs/week or 0.72 hrs/month or 8.8 hrs/year

Even though 99% Uptime sounds great, but just imagine that it means your site will be down for around 4 days in a year.

3) Disk Space: Disk space is an amount of storage space provided by Web Hosting provider to host your website and data. It is measured in Bytes, KB, MB or GB. These days almost all the web hosting companies provide unlimited disk space, so don’t go for any company which provides limited storage unless your website needs less space.

4) Inodes Distribution: Every time a file is created or uploaded on the server, an Inode ( Index Node ) is created which contains information about the file and identifies on the system. Inodes are actually the real limits on the amount of disk space you can use on an “unlimited” disk space plan.
All the web hosting provides will offer you attractive goodies such as UNLIMITED Domains, UNLIMITED Disk Space, UNLIMITED Bandwidth and 99.9% Uptime but what they don’t mention is that you’re allowed only limited Inodes, which in my case is 2,50,000 Inodes ( Hostgator) and I’m already done with the 10% of my Inodes.
So, don’t go for cheap plans which provides only 20K – 50K iNodes.

5) Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the amount of actual data that can be transferred from the web server that holds your website, to the web browser of the user who is looking at your website. Most of the companies provide unlimited bandwidth, so you can review this feature before purchasing any hosting plan.

6) Programming Language Support: It’s crucial to make sure that the web hosting company you choose provides the support for the most popular programming languages being used today which includes PHP, Ruby, ASP, Java, Perl, Python, and others.

7) MySQL Databases: Most of the web hosting companies provide freedom to create unlimited MYSQL Databases, and you should choose the one which provides unlimited support.

8 ) E-Mail: The hosting plan should support unlimited E-Mail accounts.

9) Addon Domains, Sub-Domains and Parked Domains: An Add-on domain is like running a separate web site from a single account. e.g. www.addondomain.com. An Addon Domain can also be accessed via www.mywebsite.com/addondomain and addondoamin.mywebsite.com.
A Sub-Domain is a part of the main domain. E.g. subdomain.mywebsite.com
A Parked Domain is that which simply redirects to an existing domain. E.g. www.parkeddomain.com will redirect to the www.mywebsite.com.
My Hostgator plan supports unlimited access for all of the above three types of domains. You should choose according to your needs.

10) Control Panel: cPanel is a Unix based web hosting control panel to manage all your hosting services at one place. cPanel provides access to all the features such as FTP, Fantastico which allows you to install the blogs, and many more.

11) Other Important Things: Web Hosting Provider should have a good customer support system to resolve all your issues quickly. You should also be able to transfer your website to a new server anytime you want to. The web hosting provider should also support automatic backup of your data to avoid any loss. And while buying web hosting plan, you should not be much concerned about spending some money because cheap web hosting can really hurt your business.

So to conclude, the most important thing to do before you buy a plan from any web hosting company is to read their Terms of Service(TOS). TOS will cover all their hidden range of issues which are not disclosed usually.
I am using Hostgator for a year now and would recommend every one as it is the best Web Hosting provider which provides all the features discussed above.

7 Tips For On Page Optimization Techniques For SEO Success

On-Page optimization

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the technique of making your web pages more popular and rank higher in search engines than millions of other sites in response to a search query. It is the process of getting free, organic and natural traffic from search engines.
Whenever you search a query in a search engine, you get a list of web results that contain that query term. Users would visit the websites that are more relevant to the search query. But it’s very important for websites to appear on Page one of Google search results, especially among 1 of the top 3 organic positions, as according to a recent study – these three spots receive around sixty percent of all clicks from users.

On-Page optimization

On Page Optimization is a very important factor for overall dominance in Google Searches. If all of your website pages are perfectly SEO optimized, it can help you a great deal in getting a higher rank in Google searches.

Though there is no successful formula for On Page Optimization but you can adopt these following best practices to make your pages SEO friendly:

1) Title Tag:

It is the most important factor for On Page optimization. The maximum length for Title tag is 70 characters. So, try to write a title within 70 characters. If your title is more than 70 characters, then the engines will display an ellipsis – “…” to indicate that title tag has been cut off. So, try to keep it short.
Also, Use the keyword in the title tag at least once, or better twice if it makes sense. And try to put the keyword as close to the beginning of the title tag as possible which would help you to rank higher in Google searches.
Another aspect you can keep in mind is to write a Title which is click worthy and emotional compelling users to click more on your pages.

2) Meta Description:

Meta Description is not used by search engines now for ranking but still it is advisable to use your keywords in the Meta Description and make it unique, short and catchy to get more clicks from users. The maximum limit for Meta Description is 140 characters.

3) Heading Tags:

It is advisable to use the Heading tags in the body of the content and Use the keyword in your Heading tags too. Use of heading tags helps users and search engines know where the key points of your content are.
Your main page title should use the heading(H1) tag — this shows what your page is about. Use of additional tags, such as (H2) & (H3) are also important to know what are the topics on the page.

See Also3 Tips For Off Page Optimization Techniques For SEO Success

4) Body of the Content:

You should use your keyword at least 3 times in the body of the content. You can also use your keyword more than 3 times if the body of the content is long but do not use too many keywords to avoid any ban or punishment from Google.
Also use your keyword at least once in bold and italic too.
The recommended minimum length for an article is 300 words.

5) Alt Attributes on Images:

Use the keyword at least once in the alt attribute of an image on the page. As Search bots can only read HTML tags, they can’t read images without Alt Attributes.
So, using Alt Attributes would help your images to show up in Image searches which can also bring valuable traffic to your website.
I would also recommend to use the keyword as the file name of the image to make it more SEO friendly.

6) URL Structure:

The URL structure of your page should be short, descriptive and should include your keyword.
Do not use URL structures like http://youngblah.com/?p=5024 which do not describe anything about the page but instead use URLs like http://youngblah.com/?seo-techniques.
URL structures are very important from SEO perspective as well as descriptive URLs increase click through rates and visibility.

7) Internal Linking:

Internal Linking is another important factor from SEO perspective and to get easily spidered by Search Engines Bots. It can help to increase the relevance of keywords and the keyword rankings of a given page within your site.

You can check my personal badge on the right hand side of this page. The personal badge links to your Google+ profile and also lets users share, add or follow you to their circles, directly from your webpage

Step 3: Link to your content from your profile

Now the verification process will be completed by adding a reciprocal link back from your profile to your website.

To add links to your Google Profile:
a) Sign in to your Google profile.
b) Click Edit profile.
c)  Click the Contributor To section on the right hand side(depending on number of photos you have, you may need to scroll down to see this section), and then click Add custom link and add the link of your website.
d) If you want to, you can also change the visibility of your link, and then click Save.

Option 2: Recommended For Multiple Author Websites
