facebook pages

It is always better to have 500 people who like your Facebook page and revisit your blog more often when your post something new than 2000 people who never visit your blog again. But getting engagement on Facebook pages is not easy these days.
Every user on Facebook has liked so many pages that it is very hard for your page to get noticed in their News feed. Facebook uses an algorithm – EdgeRank, to determine the importance of a status update. The more comments and likes a status update receives, the higher its EdgeRank. The higher its EdgeRank, the higher that update will be placed in news feeds of more people. This means getting comments, likes and shares should be the goal with your each status update.

Profile Picture represents your Page on other parts of Facebook, like in news feed.
Use your logo or another image that represents your Page.
You should choose an image that is square & at least 180 pixels wide.
The best part of profile picture is that you can make it look amazing by combining it creatively with Cover photo.
On the side of profile picture, it shows two stats: your total Likes & the number of “people talking about this”.
Below, About section shows a description for brands & contact information for local businesses.

Photos, Likes and Apps

b) Overview

c) Profile Picture and Cover Photo: Now spare some time to give a thought to select the profile picture because the first interaction with a user will be through your profile picture and cover photo. What to do

1) Promote your page: Just having a page on facebook doesn’t mean people will join it without you making any effort.

Firstly, combine & link your facebook page with you website, twitter & E-Mails by using different plugins available.

Secondly, promote your page using FB advertising. For more details visit here: www.facebook.com/advertising

Now you can also use “Sponsored Stories” as an advertising option. They have more bounce rate as compared to traditional advertising on facebook.

Thirdly, promote your page using your own contacts. Display it on your personal profile on FB, Twitter, and LinkedIn or on your blog also.

2) Increase Fans & Start Interacting: Whenever a fan interacts with your page, that action is listed in their Newsfeed & their Friends’ Feed. So, the more a fan interacts, the more chances you will have to get more fans.

3) Use Facebook Groups: FB groups are turning out to be great marketing and promotional tool on facebook.

e.g. Create a group like “ Let’s get 1,00,000 Music lovers worldwide together” and just imagine the possibilities of promoting anything related to the Music industry.

4) Creating contests on your page: For brands who want regular participation from

their users on the page should try out by organising different contests offering free gifts to users.

e.g. Happydent allows users to post one picture showing Happydent smile. And every week one picture with the most likes & comments wins the prize.

5) Facebook Applications: FB Applications are of great help to improve the performance of your page. You can also create your own business application by visiting www.facebook.com/developers. Go to admin area by clicking exit page. There are thousands of apps to improve the productivity & efectiveness of your page.

Some of my favourite apps are:

a) Networked Blogs App: To promote your blog.

b) Slideshare: To share your presentations.

c) FBML Tab Maker: To make your own tab with FBML code. To customize your page.

d) Facebook Video: To upload videos on facebook.

e) Blog RSS Feed Reader:Blog RSS Feed Reader allows you to add a blog or website RSS Feed to your Facebook profile for your friends to read. It’s a great way to drive traffic to your blog or website.

With the right mix of apps, you can do everything from your facebook profile itself.

6) Use facebook places: This is a new service launched by facebook which is very much similar to Foursquare. As more people check-in into your business & sharing that with their friends, it will bring word of mouth publicity & a chance to get more fans on your page. You can also offer deals to the users based on their location.

7) Like & Join the pages relevant to your business. This will give your users a chance to know more about your industry and how thoughtful you are.

8 ) Facebook Questions: This is also a new service launched by facebook. Questions spread like a fire on facebook. So you should ask questions which will entice users to answer and also will promote your brand.

9) Create Event: You can also create events on facebook and invite users to attend it. Events can be created with respect to special Diwali Sale/Offer or any special event organised by your business.

10) Respect users’ comments and views: Don’t respond harshly to bad or angry comments by the users. Respect all views and continuously keep trying to improve yourself and your service.

What Not To Do

1) Too many posts: 6-8 posts per day are advisable for the businesses from the media industry. But even 2-3 posts per week are enough according to recent survey. Also take care of your global fans by posting as per their timeline.

2) Spamming: Don’t spam people profiles by posting on their walls or messages. Don’t spam your wall also with unusual posts.

3) Not Updating Regularly: It is very important to update regularly with interesting topics to engage regularly. Facebook has a default setting that a user only sees the updates from the “Friends & pages they interact most with”. So, regular interaction is very crucial because if it is not there, then your content won’t even make to the Users’ Newsfeed.

4) No Strategy: Never take social media lightly. It is very important to have a full planned strategy to get success on different social media platforms. Else, it even can damage your business.

“Being on facebook might not give you edge over your competitors but not being on facebook will surely give an edge to your competitors who are on facebook.”
