Social Media Guide For Small Businesses

Social Media is the new revolutionary platform for businesses. It has completely transformed the way we connect with customers and generate new leads. There are so many social media sites these days that it gets confusing for businesses where to start with. Every social network is unique and important in its own way. So, it’s really crucial to integrate the use of Cross Channel Digital Advertising Solutions for the all-round development of your company.

Social Media Guide For Small Business

1) Facebook – To Engage with customers

Personal networks are for school and college buddies. When people use Facebook – they tend to be in a casual mindset looking to socialize, be entertained and kill time. They are just passing the time away.
Users on Facebook expect to see updates from friends & family, information & updates about their personal interests and entertainment content.
To be successful on Facebook, you have to align your strategy with the mindset of users. If you’re going to distract casual mindset of users by talking only about your brand, you are most likely going to fail. Instead, share humorous content and updates surrounding your industry to get users attention and in no time they will start engaging with your brand.

Few Tips for Facebook Marketing:

– Humor Sells.
E.g. Indian Ecommerce startup bewakoof.com is doing great in terms of engagement and traction by sharing humorous content on their Facebook page.

– Target Emotional Quotient of users.
E.g. Spring in the Air, a flower supplier based in Florida shared a letter from a Mother to her daughter just before Mother’s Day this year. In no time, the post went viral and has received 82,475 likes, 477,113 shares and 23,232 comments till now. Before this post, their Facebook page had less than 2,000 fans and now they have more than 16,000 fans.

How to Verify Your Website/Tumblr Blog on Pinterest

Social Media Updates on Pinterest

Just like Facebook, Twitter and Google+, Pinterest also introduced a feature for profile pages that allows you to verify your website on Pinterest. The new feature will highlight your full site URL on your Pinterest profile pages. “When your site is verified, users will see a checkmark next to your domain name in search results. They will also see the full site URL & checkmark on your profile.”

This feature will be available to all the profiles within a week or so, so it is possible that you won’t see the verify website option in your settings immediately.

How to Verify Your Website on Pinterest

1) Log in to your account and go to Pinterest.com/settings.

2) If the verified option is available to you, then choose “Verify Website”(Positioned next to the field where you fill your website information).

Pinterest Verification

3) Download the HTML Verification file.

4) Log in to your Hosting account. Select “File Manager” under Files section. Then select “Home Directory” and click on “Go”. There, open the “public_html” folder and upload the HTML file you’ve downloaded from Pinterest.

5) Click on “Click here” on the Pinterest verification page to complete the process. You can later delete the HTML file from your public_html folder.

For now, the verified option is only for “top-level” domains such as youngblah.com, and not youngblah.wordpress.com. Most blogging platforms (such as Blogger or WordPress) and eCommerce sites (such as Etsy, eBay) do not allow you to upload HTML files. Tumblr is an exception; step by step process for verifying a Tumblr blog can be found here.

It’s a great step by Pinterest to increase the visibility of official content creators and brand profiles. Also, the link from Pinterest to your website is “Dofollow”, so I’m sure it will also benefit webmasters in their SEO efforts.

So, what do you think of this move by Pinterest? Have you verified your website yet?
Leave a comment if you’re having any problem verifying your website.

How To Address Increasing Spam on Pinterest

pinterest spam

The new social media darling – Pinterest, is the new target for spammers these days. Everyday thousands of faux accounts are being created to lure users to click on their affiliate links or sometimes even for hacking purposes. You must read the story of a Pinterest spammer who is making $1000/day through amazon affiliates on Pinterest.

Similar to spam emails that have plagued online users for many years, spam accounts on Pinterest create pins with misleading affiliate links & follow many people in hopes that you will visit their boards.

Whenever you encounter such pins, you can report these pins using the Report Pin button. To report a pin, just click on any pin to view it in full-size.
Then, on the right-hand side of the pinned image, you will find the Report Pin button as shown in the picture which will open a menu to choose your type of report.

pinterest spam

Reporting a pin will give Pinterest information about the suspicious account & the spam links they are trying to promote.

How can you protect your account from spam on Pinterest?

You can follow these general Internet-safety practices to protect your account:

– You don’t need to be worried if a spam account follows you on Pinterest.
– Do not click on a pin that promotes a free giveaway or looks like an advertisement. Pinterest doesn’t provide any advertising & do not post any surveys, giveaways, or other promotions. The offer is most likely to be a spam even if it’s seems to be true.
– Pinterest will only ask for your login & password details on Pinterest.com or on our official iPhone app. Don’t log in Pinterest on other websites or on other apps.
– Do not interact with accounts where their pins don’t link to relevant content or all their pins all linked to the same source.
– If you click on a link & the resulting page is not what you expect, return to Pinterest.com immediately. It would be much better if you delete all your cookies immediately also to avoid any hack.
– Choose a unique and strong password for Pinterest.
– If you find a user following many people but with less followers and suspicious pins, it is most likely to be a spam.

So, if you are a Pinterest user – help the community to grow by reporting all the suspicious links and make it a better experience for all the users.
