Twitter gets new funding from DST and other investors

Twitter announced that the company received a significant amount of funding” from the Russian Venture Capital Digital Sky Technologies & from several of its existing investors.
Digital Sky Technologies has investments in Facebook, Groupon & Zynga also and it is led by russian investor Yuri Milner.

“Twitter’s amazing growth is a testament to how crucial it is becoming to more and more people every day & why we could not pass up the chance to be a bigger part of its future.”
“Twitter is one of the few cos that has truly changed the world,” Milner said in a statement which is released by Twitter.

The announcement regarding the funding was made on the company’s official blog but it did not provide the details of how much funding company had received. If reports are to be believed, the funding is somewhere around $800 million taking company’s total valuation to $8 billion. The company also said that they will use all these new funding and resources to hire new people, to bring more innovation and to invest in international expansion.
And in the process of international expansion, Twitter also announced the launch of Twitter in Dutch & Indonesian languages making it available in total of 11 languages now with more languages coming up in the near future.

Twitter is growing at a rapid pace. A year ago, there were only 65 million Tweets a day and approximately 150,000 registered twitter apps. Today, there are more than 200 million Tweets per day and more than 1 million twitter apps. The employees has also grown from 250 people to 600 people in last one year.

Twitter is a microblogging site on which people from all over the world come to instantly connect to what’s most meaningful to them. It is a real time pulse to know what people are thinking and doing anywhere in the world.
